2026- Boston Firefighters Local 718 vs. City of Boston

Boston Firefighters, IAFF Local 718, received a favorable arbitration award related to member work-related injury leave. The Arbitrator agreed with Attorney Hailey Ferguson and Local 718 that the City violated the collective bargaining agreement when it retroactively removed a member from work-related injury leave without providing evidence or giving the member and the Union the opportunity to defend his right to stay on leave.

This case is the first in a series of grievances that Local 718 has going forward with the City regarding issues its members have and continue to have with the Fire Department’s in-house physician. Local 718 is pleased that this award upholds the contract and provides guidance to the City on how it can resolve some of these longstanding in-house injuries leave processing problems.
